Learn through play

Children begin their own writing journey by making marks, scribbles and drawings, long before we start teaching children the necessary skills to enable them to make more formal marks.

During role play children can be encouraged to make marks in order to build their skills and develop or experience new ways to communicate for themselves. While pretending to be 'mums and dads' getting the shopping, ask: ‘how will you remember what to buy?’ These simple prompts during role play activities help to engage children in the writing process.

Here, the Curious Fox Company have a range of educational resources for children in their early years to encourage early mark making during play.
